SANCTUARY OF THE SOUL - In the First Reading for today the author of 1 Peter is writing to a group of new Christians, most of whom are gentiles. We also know that women and slaves are in the group to whom he is writing. A major theme of this letter to these early Christians addresses the suffering they are experiencing as the crossroads of their particular life circumstances and their choice to follow Christ converge and make them vulnerable in a culture unfriendly to Christians.
