THE PATHLESS PATH - The author of today’s psalm knew fear. He faced war and enemies. He was worried about being left alone or forsaken by his parents. And yet, the beginning and ending of this psalm are proclamations of trust. The author of the Psalm, David faced all kinds of things of which he could fear. Sometimes it was of his own doing and sometimes it was because of circumstances happening around him — nonetheless, he had plenty to fear. And yet, he claims, that the Lord is his light, his salvation, his stronghold. And he trusts this belief so intrinsically that the final words of this psalm are, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” David knows that no matter what comes his way, blessing or destruction, God will be there — and he is willing to wait for God.
